Okay, I know this is a stretch but lately iPhone Siri has been the answer to all of our problems immersion. We use her to when we need to know how to say a word or phrase in Chinese. For example:
I ask her, “Siri, how do I say red in Mandarin Chinese” and she will respond with the pinyin and the symbols for the word red, “hóngsè 红色”. You pronounce it like home-su, in my opinion. Pretty cool, right!
So my son is now obsessed with asking Siri how to say things he can’t remember or just wants to know. She doesn’t seem to be 100% correct all the time, I think because sometimes she responds in Simplified Chinese instead of Mandarin. If you haven’t tried this function on your iPhone, try it in any language. Also, since I use Siri in English, as I am sure most of you do, she will not translate the reverse language. Basically if I say “Siri what is hóngsè”, or ask anything in Chinese, she will try to understand me in English and give me answers like home so? or Hamsa? Haha! I am sure if my iPhone was in Chinese mode instead of English she could maybe translate to English? We will have to ask one of our buddies at Apple. Anyway, thanks Siri and Apple for the homework help. I hope this helps and works for your family! ;)
Try this with your kiddos and let me know what you think!
