Jenna Anthony - Mandarin Mom Blog
As a mama of three, signing my oldest son up for kindergarten was exciting, nerve-racking and an emotional time for our family. We had the opportunity to choose between English or Mandarin Chinese Immersion. Wow Chinese, the decision wasn't short of intimidating. My husband and I spoke no Chinese, had never been to Asia and had absolutely never considered learning Chinese. Actually, neither of us spoke much of any language besides English; very different from our fellow global humans outside of the United States. We decided we were up for the challenge, our son was too and together we took a leap of faith. Fast forward four years… my son is now a third grader and I am so glad and proud we chose a foreign language immersion program for him. So excited, in-fact, I want to share the experience here with you. Our son loves teaching and sharing with us the language and culture he is learning. Our experience has been positive but it can be challenging at times. I feel we are constantly using our resources to solve problems, figure out how to say things and figure out what things mean.

Maureen Peters - Spanish Mom Blog
I am a mom to 3, including a son in 2nd grade at a Spanish immersion school and 4 year old twins who will be in kindergarten in that same Spanish program in no time. Prior to having my twins, I was also an elementary teacher. During my time teaching, I had the opportunity to be part of a task force researching language immersion programs to bring to the school district. After all the research, I found I was totally on board with the philosophy and in awe of the process. Fast forward 10 years and I was now the parent rather than the teacher and my husband and I made the decision to send our son to a Spanish immersion school. Now 3 years into the process and we couldn’t be more happy with our decision. Not only has our son learned a tremendous amount about the Spanish language, so have we. Neither my husband or I have any background in Spanish beyond what we learned from Sesame Street in the mid 80s. Now we have fully embraced the language development process and look forward to learning together as a family.
Check out my blog Spanish Immersion MOM to learn more about my experiences as an immersion parent as well as the research to back the process.
